Reddit pega onda no ‘caso GameStop’ e dobra valuation para US$ 6 bi

A rede social Reddit, que estampou as manchetes dos jornais há algumas semanas após o caso GameStop, disse na segunda-feira (8) que levantou mais US$ 250 milhões em uma nova rodada de investimentos que dobrou seu valor de mercado para cerca de US$ 6 bilhões (isto é, R$ 32,28 bilhões).

A rede social norte-americana possui hoje mais de 50 milhões de usuários diários e registrou no último trimestre um crescimento de 90% na receita de publicidade direta em comparação com o mesmo período do ano anterior. Segundo a CNBC, o Reddit registrava, em fevereiro de 2019, um valuation de US$ 3 bilhões.

“Decidimos que agora era a oportunidade certa para realizar investimentos estratégicos no Reddit incluindo vídeos, propagandas, produtos de consumo e expandir para mercados internacionais”, disse a empresa em nota.

Entre os movimentos mais recentes da companhia está a aquisição da plataforma de vídeos curtos Dubsmash, “para trazer ferramentas de criação de vídeo altamente polidas para nossa plataforma e encorajar criadores sub-representados a encontrar um lar no Reddit.”

Além disso, a empresa também informou que pretende dobrar o número de funcionários ainda em 2021.

Efeito GameStop impulsiona Reddit

Em entrevista ao The Wall Street Journal, Steve Huffman, CEO do Reddit, disse que “esse é um bom mercado para captar recursos”.

Segundo o executivo, os valuations estão bastante altos neste momento. “Não machuca levantar recursos quando há uma oportunidade de fazê-lo e o Reddit teve um ano forte”, declarou ao jornal americano.

A nova rodada de financiamento ocorre após a comunidade de investidores WallStreetBets comprar uma briga bilionária junto a fundos de Wall Street quando os participantes coordenaram a aquisição de ações para pressionar posições vendidas, como aconteceu no caso GameStop.

Para além das finanças, a rede social registrou um forte aumento do número de s de seu aplicativo na App Store, em meio à disputa entre o subreddit e os grandes fundos.

Agora com a nova rodada de investimentos, o Reddit pretende se impulsionar ainda mais aproveitando da maré favorável.
