A farmacêutica Pfizer comunicou nesta terça-feira (28) que poderia ter uma vacina pronta contra o novo coronavírus (covid-19) para uso em caráter emergencial, caso aprovada nos testes de segurança.

Segundo o presidente executivo da Pfizer, Albert Bourla, se os órgãos reguladores de saúde aprovarem, os teste para vacina podem começar no Estado Unidos a partir da próxima semana. Dessa forma, os resultados do estudos poderiam chegar no próximo mês, afirmou Bourla.

A diretor da empresa destacou que a Pfizer precisa realizar mais testes para garantir a segurança do procedimento. Nesse sentido, caso todas testagens forem aprovadas, a farmacêutica poderá começar a distribuir a vacina em caráter emergencial em setembro. A aprovação para ampla distribuição também poderá sair, até o final do ano afirmou Bourla.

Alemanha aprova primeiro teste clínico de vacina

O governo da Alemanha autorizou, na última quarta-feira (22), a realização dos primeiros testes clínicos de uma vacina contra o novo coronavírus.

Segundo o Instituto Paul-Ehrlich, órgão regulamentador do país, a aprovação foi “resultado de uma cuidadosa avaliação” de risco e benefício da vacina. O método a ser testado faz parte de um programa global de pesquisa.

Os testes terão como objetivo a dose correta a ser aplicada e avaliação da segurança e a eficiência do método preventivo. Trata-se da primeira fase, a segunda irá incluir voluntários com risco maior de serem afetados mais severamente pela covid-19.

“É uma etapa importante no caminho para o desenvolvimento de vacinas seguras e eficazes contra o coronavírus para a população da Alemanha e fora do país”, informou o instituto.

Ao todo, serão 200 voluntários saudáveis, com idades entre 18 e 55 anos, a testar o protótipo contra o novo coronavírus. Os testes serão realizados pela BioNTech e Pfizer.
