Lula volta a atacar Banco Central e critica patamar atual da Selic

O presidente da República, Lula (PT), voltou a atacar a política monetária conduzida pelo Banco Central (BC), e a independência da autoridade monetária.

A fala de Lula se deu em discurso encerrado nesta segunda-feira (6) no Rio. Segundo o mandatário, não “tem explicação” para a taxa básica de juros (a Selic, hoje em 13,75% ao ano) estar em “13,5%”.

“O problema não é de banco independente”, afirmou Lula, em discurso na cerimônia de posse do novo presidente do Banco Nacional de Desenvolvimento Econômico e Social (BNDES), Aloizio Mercadante. “O problema é que este País tem uma cultura de juro alto”, completou o presidente, que tratou da política monetária em dois momentos do discurso.

Lula citou também o comunicado da decisão da semana ada do Comitê de Política Monetária (Copom) do BC para sustentar que não haveria motivos para os juros básicos estarem nos níveis atuais.

“É só ver a carta do Copom para ver que é uma vergonha esse aumento de juros”, afirmou Lula, que ironizou os efeitos negativos de suas críticas à política monetária e à independência do Banco Central sobre as cotações dos ativos do mercado de capitais. “Se eu, que fui eleito, não posso falar, quem pode?
