O CEO da Tesla (TSLA34), Elon Musk, deu a entender neste domingo (16) que a montadora pode ter vendido sua posição em Bitcoin.

O declaração foi dada na conta pessoal de Musk no Twitter. O executivo respondeu uma conta denominada de @CryptoWhale, que afirmou: “Os Bitcoiners vão se esbofetear no próximo trimestre quando descobrirem que a Tesla se desfez do resto de seus ativos #Bitcoin.”

“Com a quantidade de ódio que Elon Musk está recebendo, eu não o culparia”, afirmou o usuário. Em seguida, o presidente da montadora respondeu: “Certamente.”

Musk completou, ao respondeu um usuário, que o Bitcoin está longe de ser descentralizado atualmente. “A criptomoeda é controlada por um punhado de grandes empresas de mineração. Musk havia dito que Tesla não venderia posição em Bitcoin

Na última quarta-feira (12), Musk escreveu que por mais que a companhia tenha suspendido as compras com a criptomoeda, não venderia mais nenhum ativo — como já o fez meses atrás. A empresa pretende voltar a utilizar a moeda digital quando as técnicas de transações e de mineração se tornarem mais sustentáveis.

As preocupações são ambientais. “Nós estamos preocupados a respeito do rápido crescimento dos combustíveis fósseis utilizados na mineração e na transação do Bitcoin”, afirmou a companhia.

“As criptomoedas são uma boa ideia em vários estágios, e nós acreditamos nelas como promissoras para o futuro, mas elas não podem ter um grande custo para o meio ambiente.”

As contínuas críticas de Musk colaboram para a derrocada da criptomoeda, que acumula uma perda de mais de 20% no mês. Por volta das 18h15 deste domingo, o Bitcoin caía 7,17%, para US$ 44,8 mil.
