A Disney finalizou nesta quarta (20) a compra da 21st Century Fox por US$ 71,3 bilhões. A transação foi aprovada por órgãos reguladores de vários países, permitindo a conclusão da compra.

Walt Disney Company anuncia novo CEO

A Century Fox, que faz parte do grupo Fox, vai agora somar ao que deve ser a maior empresa de entretenimento do mundo. Ficarão sob o mesmo guarda-chuva marcas como Star Wars, os heróis da Marvel (Homem Aranha, X-Men, Homem de Ferro, Capitão América, Os Vingadores), Os Simpsons, além dos personagens da Disney, como Mickey Mouse e Pato Donald.

“A combinação da riqueza de conteúdos criativos e talentos comprovados da Disney e da 21st Century Fox dará à companhia de entretenimento global uma ótima posição para liderar em uma era incrivelmente dinâmica e transformadora”, informou em nota o executivo-chefe da Disney, Bob Iger.

A Disney garantiu uma economia de US$ 2 bilhões até 2021 aos acionistas. Para isso, deve haver demissões de até 4 mil funcionários. Apesar disso, a empresa vai absorver 15,4 mil funcionários da 21st Century Fox.

O bilionário Rupert Murdoch, dono do império Fox, no entanto, vai manter controle sobre os canais Fox News e Fox Sports. As marcas fazem parte da Fox Corporation, focada em notícias e esportes. As unidades que agora serão istradas pela Disney são:

A oferta da Disney para a compra da Century Fox teve que aumentar depois que a Comcast cobriu com US$ 65 bilhões a proposta de 52,4 bilhões da concorrente. Assim, a Disney foi obrigada a subir a oferta para US$ 71,3 bilhões.

A operação dará liga aos planos da companhia para 2019, como o seu próprio serviço de streaming, o Disney+. A plataforma surgirá para concorrer com a líder do setor, a Netflix.
