O CEO do Spotify (S1PO34), Daniel Ek, teve sua oferta de compra recusada pelo Arsenal, um dos mais tradicionais clubes de futebol da Inglaterra. Segundo o site Sky Sports, a oferta girava em torno de US$ 2,54 bilhões (cerca de R$ 13,4 bilhões na cotação atual).

Em um pronunciamento em sua conta pessoal no Twitter, o executivo do Spotify fez questão de salientar que a oferta realmente foi realizada aos proprietários e partes relacionadas ao Arsenal. Josh Kroenke, dono do clube inglês, contudo, disse que o dinheiro não era necessário.

Kroenke comprou o tradicional time de Londres há alguns anos por US$ 2,3 bilhões. Hoje, ele é o oitavo mais valioso clube de futebol do mundo, avaliado em US$ 2,8 bilhões, segundo a Forbes. O dono do Arsenal vale US$ 9,7 bilhões, com base no ranking da Bloomberg.

Ek, por sua vez, tem uma fortuna avaliada em US$ 4,4 bilhões, sendo a 662ª pessoa mais rica do planeta. Em uma declaração recente, o executivo demonstrou que suas intenções misturam uma oportunidade de negócios e uma paixão pessoal.

“Sou torcedor do Arsenal desde os oito anos. Arsenal é o meu time, amo a história, os jogadores e, claro, a torcida. Então vejo uma tremenda oportunidade para direcionar o clube, para trazer de volta à sua glória”, afirmou o presidente do Spotify.

Pressionado, o clube não vem apresentando um desempenho dentro de campo à altura de seu valor de mercado. O Arsenal não é campeão da liga inglesa desde 2003. O time nunca foi campeão da Champions League, título mais importante do continente europeu, tendo chegado a uma única final há 16 anos.

Além disso, a proposta de compra vem à tona após os torcedores reagirem negativamente aos planos do clube londrino de ingressar na Superliga, campeonato com 12 clubes da elite europeia, no mês ado. O projeto fracassou em menos de três dias após o anúncio, com forte pressão popular e da mídia.

O CEO do Spotify afirmou que respeita a decisão dos líderes do Arsenal e que “permanece interessado e disponível caso a situação mude”.
